Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) collaborated with Wondfo Biotech conducting a pilot study to promot Wondfo HIV self-testing (HIVST) kit to launch in Nigeria with a historic price of $1.00 EXW, the lowest on the market.
The aim of this study was to assess the acceptability and usability of this product, with a view to providing a more comprehensive understanding of the potential challenges involved in implementing and using HIV self-testing (HIVST) in the country. The findings will support the FMOH and healthcare professionals in scaling up HIV self-testing in the country, which will result in more people getting tested and linked to care, thereby contributing to the 95 global targets. Wondfo generously donated 10,500 HIV self-test kits for the pilot study in Nigeria.
According to the report, Wondfo HIV self-testing (HIVST) kit is easy to use, high sensitivity, and all required items included in the package. It has received great feedback during pilot promotion, with the majority of participants (89.7%) report the kits “easy” and “very easy” to use and 98.6% of participants willing to recommend it to friends. Although there were some observed barrier or challenges in introducing the kits to clients around language, but was overcome through interpreters and IFU insert (words and pictorial are in local languages). Based on the result, CHAI will offer market insights to inform future kit procurement decisions to the national quantification team, and Wondfo team will dedicated to the product launch in Nigeria. In the future, CHAI and Wondfo will seek further cooperation opportunity with the government agencies, international donors, and NGOs to increase the accessibility of HIVST kits in Nigeria.
