Dengue Fever Global Epidemic Timely Diagnosis is Key
August 21,2024 (Edit) Wondfo

Since 2024, the global dengue fever epidemic situation is not optimistic. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 7.6 million cases of dengue fever infection have been reported globally, and active dengue transmission has been detected in 90 countries, mainly concentrated in Latin America, Southeast Asia and other regions, and the data is still climbing.

Dengue fever (DEN) is an acute infectious disease caused by the dengue virus, transmitted through the bite of the vector Aedes aegypti. The vector Aedes aegypti, which can transmit dengue virus, is widely distributed in China, and the virus can spread rapidly after importation. May to November each year is the epidemic season of dengue fever transmission in China. The population is generally susceptible, with an incubation period of 1 to 14 days, while some individuals do not develop symptoms (referred to as asymptomatic carriers). The clinical symptoms include a sudden onset, fever that may last for 2 to 7 days, severe headache, myalgia, joint pain, retro-orbital pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and rash.

Timely diagnosis is the key

According to WHO, there is no specific treatment for dengue. Timely diagnosis of dengue cases, recognition of warning signs for severe dengue, and appropriate clinical management are key factors in preventing the progression to severe dengue and reducing the risk of death.

Since 2016, Wondfo has launched dengue virus testing reagents and pioneered a combined test for dengue virus antigen and antibody in China. With just one sample and one test, it is possible to quickly determine dengue infection and indicate the disease's progression, supporting global dengue prevention and control efforts with advanced technology. The project "Research on Field-Suitable Dengue Prevention and Control Technology and Strategies," in which Wondfo participated, was awarded the Second Prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award. This project has gained valuable time for the early detection of dengue sources and the prevention of disease transmission.

Racing for life, Wondfo will continue to drive high-quality development through scientific research innovation, striving to make biotechnology benefit all.
