Sperm, How Are You!
June 07,2021 (Edit) Wondfo
Male factor counts in a successful pregnancy. Sperm quality plays a role in the health of the overall pregnancy and possibly the baby. Now, let’s walk through a checklist for the healthy and fertile sperm:

Color

Semen is typically whitish-gray in color with a jelly-like texture. This can vary slightly depending on the diet, overall health, etc. Yellowish semen usually isn't a cause for concern. It may related with specific food, medication. However, very yellow semen with abdominal pain and frequent urination may suggest possible prostatitis happening.

Note: if red or brown semen appears, that demonstrates unhealthy status of sperm. Seminal vesiculitis or other problems may occur. Further diagnosis and treatment are required.

Liquefaction

The liquefaction of semen is the process when the sticky, jelly-like gel becomes more liquid. It normally takes less than 20 minutes for this change, but within 60 minutes is regarded as within normal ranges.

Non-liquefaction is an abnormally prolonged time (longer than 60 mins) required for this process. This condition may trap the sperm and lead to infertility. Common reasons include prostatitis, spermatocystitis, etc.

Volume

According to the International Society for Sexual Medicine, the average semen volume per ejaculate ranges from 1.25 to 5 milliliters (ml). This amount is the equivalent of one-quarter to 1 teaspoon of semen. But, note that semen volumes can vary from one time to another.

Low-volume (1ml) may require attention. This may caused by frequent ejaculation or ejaculatory duct obstruction which may require further treatment.

Sperm density

Normal sperm densities range from 15 million to greater than 200 million sperm per milliliter of semen. Consider a low sperm count if fewer than 15 million/mL or less than 39 million sperm total/ejaculate. Commercialized Wondfo sperm concentration test provides an accessible and easier way of detection.

Father-to-be, we should also be prepared, do not let your beloved wife facing this responsibility and probably stress all by herself. Good news will come earlier if both of you are well-prepared.
